Copper in the plasma is transported on transcuprein I and II, albumin and metallothionein:copper is transported to the liver from the site of absorption in the gut by albumin (the most non - specific of the copper transport proteins). Most of the copper in plasma is present as the ferro-oxidase enzyme ceruloplasmin, which is a positive acute phase reactant and hence rises in concentration in the plasma during inflammation.
