Iron (Fe) - urine


Indications:

Reference interval < 0.5 umol/L or < 2.0 umol/24 hours

Increased iron excretion will be observed in subjects with iron overload, as compared to subjects with normal iron status, after desferrioxamine (DFO, Desferral) injection

Reference interval after DFO chelation: < 18.0 umol/L suggests normal iron status, > 40.0 umol/L suggests excess iron storage
